Brgy. Concepcion Dos, Marikina Science High School, and Concepcion Elementary School topped their respective categories in the 1st Marikina Web Awards. Each of them won PhP15,000.
Taking first runner-up honors at the awarding ceremonies on June 13 at Teatro Marikina were Brgy. San Roque, Sta. Elena High School, and El Victorino Elementary School, each winning PhP10,000. Brgy. Malanday, Concepcion High School, and Nangka Elementary School were named second runner-up and won PhP5,000 each..
The competition, which aimed to encourage citywide participation in governance through the use of the Internet, was participated in by Marikina’s 16 barangays, 10 public high schools, and 17 public elementary schools. Their homegrown Websites were judged according to the following criteria: content, 35%; design, 25%; usability, 20%; and functionality, 20%..
Mayor Marides Fernando said the Web Awards project illustrates the city’s commitment to empower its citizens to make informed decisions through technology tools such as the Internet. “The project also reflects the vision of the Department of Education to encourage each school in the country to create a Website,” she added. Mayor Fernando also noted that through the Web Awards, Marikina hopes to promote the Internet as a method for disseminating key information such as a barangay’s primary services and how to properly avail of those services.
The Web Awards was inspired by the Best Website recognition Marikina received (www.marikina.gov.ph) at the 10th Philippine Web Awards (e-local government unit category) in November 2007. |
